All Plegium pepper sprays have a long shelf life. The manufacturing date (MFD) shown on the product is not an expiration date, and the spray canister has a shelf life of at least five years from the manufacturing date when stored according to the instructions.
For products with electronic functions, we recommend replacing the replaceable battery after two years of active use to ensure reliable operation of the siren, LED light and emergency alerts. On products supplied with a battery isolation strip, this period begins when the strip is removed. The spray canister itself does not need to be replaced after two years.
If you’re unsure whether the electronic functions are working, you can test the siren, LED light and emergency alerts without deploying the spray itself (It’s important to save the spray liquid in case of a real emergency) by using the test lever on the side of the spray. Use a pointed object to push the lever down for 10 seconds, then push it back up.
Remember to inform your emergency contacts in advance so they know it’s only a test.
